A bad day in mid Cornwall as two-thirds of Bodmin St Austell services cancelled

Sunday 10 September has been a bad day for bus passengers hoping to travel between Bodmin and St Austell as two-thirds of the timetabled services have been cancelled.

The timetable schedules 6 services each way on the Go Cornwall Bus 26 route at two-hourly intervals on Sundays. Unfortunately, 4 out of the 6 services in each direction did not run because of “driver absence”. This is a route subsidised by Cornwall Council under its 8-year contract with Go Cornwall Bus. There are contractual penalties for failing to run services but a response to an FOI request confirmed that no penalties have ever been imposed on the bus operator for these failures.
