Overnight road closure of A390 - Cornwall Council fails to tell Go Cornwall bus
5 July 2026

Cornwall Council will be carrying out major resurfacing work on the A390 in Fore Street, Grampound, overnight from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. from 5 July for 10 days. These works have been planned for months and notices were put out on the road in the last 10 days or so.

Residents have received mixed messages about the implications for access to and from their properties with some being told that they would be able to access them with delays, or maybe they would have to divert around lanes and approach the village from the opposite direction. Not at all clear.

Go Cornwall Bus no. 27 runs between Truro and St Austell through Grampound with evening services on Monday to Saturday, three after 7 p.m. towards St Austell and two after 7 p.m. towards Truro. I asked Go Cornwall Bus what would happen to these services and was told as recently as Friday 3 July:
"Dear Mr. Egerton Thank you for contacting Go Cornwall Bus.
In regards to your enquiry, we do not believe that there are any changes to the 27 service.
Kind Regards

Today (Sunday 5 July) an update was posted on the Transport for Cornwall website saying that no services would run through Grampound, or Hewas Water, Sticker or St Mewan on these evenings, see screenshot below.
Clearly nobody in Cornwall Council had remembered to tell the bus company about the road closure until perhaps, in panic, today, somebody twigged that something should be said!

Today, a message was put on the Council website page that is supposed to list roadworks that will cause disruptions to bus services and it says, "Affected Dates - 05/07/2026 - 06/07/2026 Reason - Road Closed. Description - Road closure on A390 through Grampound”. This suggests it will be for one night only. Since this is a Sunday and there is only one service after 7 p.m. and that is at 7.03 p.m., in practice it should not be affected if the Cormac team use a bit of discretion. However, the notice does not tell anyone that in fact the closure will be operative for about two weeks.
