RTPI system shows cancelled bus for first time
21 November 2022

On Friday 18 November, a day when First Bus drivers were on strike and virtually all First services in Cornwall were cancelled, the RTPI system was still showing services as though they were running. I raised this issue with Cornwall Council local transport team and pointed out the absurdity of having a real time passenger information system that did not display real time information.

On Monday 21 November, the strike was taking place again and I am pleased to see that action has been taken to amend the displays. The system is now showing services as cancelled (based on a sample of one in Grampound) and the message has also been changed from “disruption on First services” to “most First services are not running”.

Hopefully, this will mean in future that the RTPI system is going to be monitored more closely and action continues to be taken to ensure that the information displayed is up to date. Frustratingly, however, the First app continues to show the services as though they are running. There is still more work to be done by the bus company.
