Tap and cap successfully records £2 maximum single fares
9 January 2023

Following the introduction of the government funded £2 cap on single fares, I decided to trial it using tap and cap. I am pleased to report that the charging system works fine. A journey from Truro bus station to Grampound that would normally cost £3.50 was charged at £2 and the return leg from Grampound to Truro (Waitrose) that would normally cost £3 was also charged at £2. See littlepay transaction record.

This provides further evidence that tap and cap is the best way to pay for single fares on buses despite the Transport for Cornwall website saying that single fares can only be purchased from the bus driver.

There was a slight hiccup in my trial run in that the real time passenger information system failed to track the bus that I was originally going to catch. See further RTPI issue.
