Ever since the launch of the Transport for Cornwall brand in 2022, its website has been a disappointment to say the least. It consists of one page with information that is frequently out of date or incorrect. See various posts such as timetables not up to date, failure to update website etc.
Since its launch, it has had the same wording of "Over the next 12 months we will be working to bring all your essential travel information together in one place with a website and app.” Approximately 30 months later, it has not happened.
In June 2024, Cornwall Council published its updated Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). Production of such a plan is necessary in order to secure the release of money from the Department for Transport to local transport authorities to support local bus services. It seems that the Cornwall BSIP has sufficiently impressed the DfT that about £10 million is going to be given by the government to Cornwall Council to help fund service improvements over the next few years. See government funding announcement.
Within Cornwall’s BSIP, there was a statement (p41 of the document) about the Transport for Cornwall app and website. It said, "Also over the Summer, the Transport for Cornwall combined app and website will launch, promoted by a product launch campaign encouraging people to download the app and receive full bus journey planning information and ticket retail in one place.”
The summer has come and gone and there is no sign of the app or new website. I wrote to the Transportation service of the Council and asked what is happening, and they have assured me as follows, "we are aiming to launch in early 2025”.
It will be interesting to see whether “early 2025” does finally become the time when the long awaited app arrives and whether the TfC website will become the "single point for information". Meanwhile, the bizzare Cornwall by Bus website and the Legendary Journeys website linger on in the ether bringing confusion to anyone who stumbles across them.
