Do you want the bad news or the good news?
If you are a motorist who wants to park in the centre of Truro, it is bad news as structural engineering consultants have issued a report to Cornwall Council saying that, in respect of Moorfield car park, whose upper decks have been closed for many months:
“It has exceeded its original design life”
“There is a high risk of failure”
“There is a risk of progressive collapse"
"Based on this assessment it is recommended that the car park is closed due to the high risk of failure and then demolished at the earliest convenient opportunity.”
If you want to see fewer cars in Truro city centre and more use made of Truro's park and ride service, then this is good news. It may finally persuade more motorists to use the service. The park and ride has seen reducing passenger numbers over the past few years, partly as a result of fewer people coming into Truro post-Covid, but also because of the Council’s bizarre decision to offer cut price car parking in the city centre.
